...about Dot Web Design
Dot Web Design Ltd is owned and run by Alastair Cassels - that
is, me.
I have a firm belief in the old-fashioned business values of good
service and offering value for money. I get annoyed by the number
of internet businesses who still act as if the internet was some
kind of magic circle only open to a privileged few. When you talk
to me, I won't use jargon, won't sell you services you don't need
and won't assume that you will be so dazzled by the brilliance
of the internet that I can get away with less than the best.
What I will do is offer you a straighforward, honest service,
give you good advice and provide you with an excellent website
at a reasonable cost.
How did I get here?
Following my experience of the retail industry (from the Reject
Shop to Harrods) and education, including 15 years as a teacher
in a school where I was head of a successful science department,
I set up my first website in 1998. My first major project was Reddot,
an online art gallery set up to exhibit the works of family and
friends, including two well-known artists, Francis Hoyland and
the late Dick Lee. I have left the site more or less unchanged
to the present day (although it is currently offline), and I am
proud of the fact that while slightly old-fashioned in appearance
it uses the same sound principles of design and navigation that
I incorporate in the sites I am designing today.
Following this, I started taking on commissions from friends and
business contacts, and found that my name was rapidly passed on
from one person to another. This has enabled me to build up a sizeable portfolio of
clients with hardly any advertising at all.
I have also built up a list of high quality contacts - photographers,
graphic designers, database specialists, marketing experts, etc
- on whom I call for collaboration in projects as and when necessary.
